Take A Seat, Tom

It’s over.

We are beaten men.

We fought and argued for roughly seven whopping months about a negligible amount of psi missing from a football.  That’s seven months that, thankfully, can be put behind us.  Whether we like it or not, it’s over.  The best quarterback currently playing in the NFL is a dirty, lying cheater. It’s time to own up to it.

And it’s time to have some fun with it.

Oh yeah, that we I was talking about?  I am obviously talking about both Tom Brady and people like me, his supporters.  I admit it, I am a homer, even though I hate that term.  I am not a Simpsons character, although that Homer has a better body that I truly envy.  I also envy the body of Tom Brady, and I think its time to drop the appeal and let that body rest for 4 weeks.

It’s a battle he already lost and can’t come back to win.  The challenge flag was thrown, truck advertisements were shown, the call was upheld, and the NFL moved on to the next play.  They never revisit, even when they blow it.  This time was no exception.

Who cares that evidence is seemingly on his side?  Who cares that, according to NBC, he apparently offered to find the text messages from the supposedly destroyed phone and show them and the NFL refused? The NFL along with the judges and juries of the American public, which include people who cannot read or write as well as fans of the other 31 teams that he has been beating for over a decade, have already found him guilty.

Lawyers cost money, Tom.  Go on vacation.

In fact, take 4 of em.  Those 4 games in which he is suspended just so happen to correspond with the number of rings that he has.  Rings that can’t be taken away.  He won his first in New Orleans, which I hear is beautiful in early September.  Why not pay a visit?  It’s been awhile since they have seen a champion.  Besides they are too busy setting bounties and doing molly.  He won other rings in Houston and Jacksonville, cities that won’t see a Lombardi trophy for roughly 489 years.  Why not take that gorgeous wife of yours and go show these poor bastards what a real champion looks like?

Just remember, we are not arguing whether or not the air level in the ball truly matters anymore.  If leading the biggest 4th quarter comeback in Super Bowl history AFTER being accused of this “cheating” (do you really think that ball was altered?  do you?), doesn’t win people to your side, nothing ever will.

So go on, take a 5 week vacation that does nothing but help your body and your team.  You earned it.  And hey, take some pictures, too.

Preferably holding some trophies high and middle fingers up.

  1. He could have given up when Lloyd Carr refused to play him over Drew Henson. He could have given up when he almost went undrafted. He could have given up when he was the 4th QB on the depth chart. So he should fight this to the death. Take on that hypocritical, two-faced, Machiavellian, corporate android commissioner who has stumbled from one giant clusterfuck to the next but now, suddenly, he is the bastion of integrity and the arbiter of all that is just and true. You never saw that Ray Rice video, Roger? How come you never gave up your personal phone in that investigation?

The major fault I see in Brady and the Patriots is their horrific PR skills. The NFL is playing for keeps, leaking little tidbits of info designed to make the Pats look as bad as possible. Their initial leak to Mortensen about the balls being 2 PSI under the limit was way off, and they knew it. Did they correct the public record? Nope. They let the Pats twist in the wind because this became about anything but the rules and competitive fairness a while ago. It's a pissing contest now and Goodell will do whatever it takes because he runs the office with his finger in the wind, making decisions based on public sentiment and mob mentality and always has. He needs to be the boss. Any challenge to his highness must be punished swiftly (before overturned by judges with brains.) But while the league office leaks and lies, Brady posts family vacation photos on Instagram. He needs to talk -- NOW. Defend himself. Say he was never obligated to turn over his phone to an office that has already proven it can't keep anything in house. He could have tossed it in the ocean or used it as a paperweight. They were never going to get it anyway, but the optics of Brady hammering his phone to pieces like Henry Hill trying to flush the coke down the toilet in Goodfellas suits their purposes. It LOOKS bad, and that's all the NFL cares about. Appearances. Pretending to be about integrity but in reality acting like FIFA-light, like charging the military for pre-game tributes or saying they care about concussions while fighting for an 18-game regular season.

By the way, I destroyed the sim card when I upgraded my phone last year. And no one gives a damn about what's on my phone.

Goodell has been embarrassed by his predecessor during the Vilma mess. He's been humiliated time and time again in federal court. He couldn't have screwed up the Ray Rice thing worse if he tried. But now he's infallible and Tom Brady is the villain? He's been nothing but a model player and star for 15 years, and they're going to burn him over ball pressure?

And all this hysteria over .6 PSI. Because that was Brady's diabolical plan. At 13.0 he's Geno Smith. At 11.8 he's the greatest of all time. Sure. No one gave a damn about PSI before, not even the NFL because they had almost no procedure in place. They just made it up as they went along, as they always do. I just wish the Pats would fight back, instead of the usual "We're just focused on football" comments. Time to take the gloves off. They have to know who they're dealing with.

Sorry for the rant. I'm worked up. It'll pass and Brady will one day retire as one of the top 2 best QBs to ever play no matter what crybaby owners or fans in New York say. And after that, maybe it's best to drift away from this league as long as this clown is running the circus. It's always something with this guy. The rest of the country hates the Pats. I get that. And they're reveling in it. But next time it will be their team. Just ask Saints fans. Ask Rams fans when their team is yanked away in a few years. Goodell is truly slime. Football should be fun. It should be more than constant talk of punishments, suspensions, lockouts and settlements. He makes Gary Bettman look like a genius.
